We realized exactly what Isaac will do all summer--throw them in the water
This little afternoon excursion reminded us of how happy and content our kids are in nature, something they don't seem to be when stuck inside. Nature evokes so much curiosity, exploration and creativity. Ben described it best when he said "it's 100 times better than any toy you can buy at Wal-Mart." We've gotten really good at letting the kids take the lead when we go out. We rarely push the kids to hike to a specific destination, and instead take our time and stop to just see what we can see. It's really amazing what they might find. On this trip they found a tree almost cut down by a beaver, a tadpole swimming around under the frozen ice along with some water bugs, lots of cool rocks and sticks, a possible spring, sand for making a castle, and a frozen pond to play on! We heard lots of "Wow!" "Look at this!" "Come here, I've gotta show you this!" This is my favorite kind of fun.

Kids are so great at reminding us adults to slow down and enjoy creation again. I remember finding all those kinds of treasures when I was younger too, but somehow as you get older you forget to enjoy them and need little ones to show you once again.
Love your new blog header photo, how funny as they each make a different expression. Life with 3 kids, for sure ;)
Looks like fun! I love that about the nature thing too... such different kids when you let them lead the way!
Your husband looks like the man who discovered those mountains.
