Sister's Weekend

Most moms discover somewhere along the way that they never really get a break. Even when there are other people around to help or we're on "vacation", relaxing is a foreign concept. Many of us can't even enjoy ourselves when we get out of the house partly because we've forgotten what to do with ourselves, or more deeply, who we are without our kids around.
In order to keep my sanity I've tried to make a conscious effort to find things that I enjoy, that are only for me, but that is harmonious with family life. Some of those things I do around the house, like cooking, knitting, or reading but others require some separation like volleyball and walking/hiking or a weekend away with my sister! Neither of us have ever been away from our families for an entire weekend before, and last weekend was a needed break for both of us. We rented a two bedroom condo in downtown Whitefish and headed out on Friday afternoon. We danced, slept in (this means like 9:00 for us), knitted, shopped, walked, ate yummy food. It was wonderful! The best part however was the release from duty. We had no one to take care of except ourselves for two full days, something we haven't felt in years. Wow, what a release!
I feel so lucky to have such a loving, caring, and competent husband to leave my kids with and a sister who is also my best friend to escape with.

I'm moved nearly to tears, and proud, and so pleased that you were really able to free yourselves for a weekend.
