Erecting the Yurt

We spent a good part of the early summer putting a yurt on the upper corner of my dad's property.  I give most of the credit to Ben for his ambition and determination and to my dad for letting us use his property.  The first step was putting in a road up a steep hillside.  The access 4wd only and definitely accessed only with snowshoes in the winter. Then we hired someone to build the platform for us.  After gathering several excited volunteers we began to erect the structure. Many grueling and hot hours passed and unfortunately the day ended in frustration.  The yurt company made several big mistakes which did not not allow us to finish the yurt ourselves.  They eventually sent a team out to fix it (basically rebuild it entirely) and gave us a bit of a refund.  I was very disappointed that we couldn't be the ones to complete it, but at least it's up and finished and we have an awesome place in the woods with an incredible view to enjoy. We furnished it a few weeks ago with a trundle bunk bed for the kids, a futon for us, kitchen table and bookshelf. There is no electricity or water and we have an outhouse. The kids and I have only slept inside the yurt one night, but it was a beautiful one with starts shining through the dome skylight and complete silence all around. We all loved it and can't wait to spend more time up there.
