My garden has been a great success so far this summer! I also bought a share of a local farm or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). With both of these going I feel as though I have greens coming out of my ears. The CSA has been a lot of fun for me because they give you some interesting and sometimes strange veggies that I have never tried before. We've been eating stir fry a few times every week.
Our latest excursion was just this last weekend. We camped at a remote lake northwest of here, very near the Canadian border called little Therrioult lake. It is near lots of hiking trails in the Ten Lakes Scenic Area. We spent a lot of time on the lake in our canoe and we did two hikes. I am amazed with what a great hiker Josiah has become. The first hike we did was about 5.5 miles with at least 1,000 feet of elevation gain which he hiked almost entirely on his own. The next day we hiked another 4.5 miles, and this one he did all on his own. I was blown away! Eve also does great, she hikes some and gets carried some. Isaac of course gets carried the whole time, but if given the chance he takes off down the trail on his little wobbly legs too.
We were woken up last night around 1am to a loud thunderstorm, and were treated to another storm (this time with hail) in the morning as we frantically packed up our stuff.
I've been thinking a lot about teaching my kids a genuine appreciation for nature, and through that I have created a greater appreciation myself. I also notice that I can learn a lot from how the kids interact with nature. One example from this weekend was when I was sitting in a chair in camp with Isaac in my lap and we felt a little breeze blow over us. I saw him look up and start to wave at the tree over our heads. I saw that the wind blowing the branches looked just like a hand waving at him. Of course a 1 year old would instinctively wave back. Lesson learned: always wave back when a tree waves at you.

Always wave back when a tree waves at you! I knew Isaac was brilliant!THESE PICTURES ARE SO GREAT! My overnight at the lake with the girls was really appreciated and learned some new games --one is hysterical--I will have to tell you about it.
Loved your comments, Jill. You're so in tune with your kids. I'm honored to have been included in one of your camping trips.
What a great picture of Evie in the swing. I miss you all.
