Farm Share

Chinese Cabbage, French Sorrel, Red Lettuce, Oregano, Green onions, and some Yukon Gold potatoes from the root cellar. This was all in the bag from the farm share my friend Brooke and I are sharing this summer (we're sharing a share). Basically, each person pays a fee and receives a portion of the produce from a local farm every week from June through October. Our farm is called Terrapin Farms located just north of Whitefish. I see it as a cool way to learn about farming and eat really yummy, fresh produce. I'm excited to take the kids to see the farm and maybe work a little too.So far I've only eaten the cabbage, with which I made a really yummy stir fry. I think I will find some yummy way to wilt the Sorrel. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.
By accident I also started reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. It is the story of her family attempting to live an entire year off of the food they can produce themselves or buy locally. The two things seem to go together very well.

Sounds like a great program. I'm curious though, how did you start reading a book on accident?

Well I planned to read the book, but not along side of the farm share. I placed a hold at the library, and you never really know when it will become available. So, it just worked itself out.

That book sounds interesting. I've only read her book "The Poisonwood Bible," which I enjoyed a lot. The kids' reading program sounds cool too. There is something sorta similar at our library here, but Jesse has so many day camps, soccer camps, swim lessons and VBSs that I don't know if he's gonna get to go very often! We went today though.

Yay for summer!
