As a kid we would pile into the car with our empty coffee cans and a bungee cord to tie the can around our waist and head up the forest service road we lived on in search of huckleberries. I loved sitting in the woods and filling up my can (and my belly) with these tart berries. When we got home my mom would make pancakes, pies, jam, and sauces with them. We often would freeze some for later use.
I love carrying on traditions, so here we are doing it ourselves. None of the kids are able to collect much. Anything they picked went right in their mouth, but I was able to collect a little more than a pint to bring home. This morning we ate huckleberry pancakes and I'm planning a little surprise for Josiah on his birthday tomorrow with the rest of them.

Love the video! Isaac is so darn cute. And the pancakes look amazingly good!
I wish I knew what his plan was for that last berry.
mmm huckleberries. That has always been my favorite part about going to ski camp in ORegon and going to the huckleberry Inn in Government camp and getting Huckleberry shakes!
